Puttenham Golf Club: A Historic Oasis for Golf Enthusiasts
Welcome to Puttenham Golf Club, a true gem among the South East England golfing scene. Established in 1894 by a group of Army Officers, Charterhouse School Masters, and local businessmen, this members club boasts a rich history and a well-deserved reputation for friendliness. Strategically located on naturally draining land in the foothills of the Hogs Back, just off the A31 in Guildford, the picturesque 18-hole parkland course presents a challenge to golfers of all levels.
Puttenham's strategic positioning, a mere 10 minutes' drive from Guildford, Farnham, and Godalming, and 35 miles from Central London, makes it an easily accessible destination. Its location also ensures that the course remains rarely overcrowded, especially during weekdays. The club takes pride in its active Men's, Seniors, Ladies, Mixed, and Junior sections, with a full schedule of competitions and matches to keep members engaged.
Signature hole, the short par 4 first, offers a formidable tee-shot challenge with a 150-yard carry over the pit, up a hill, and perhaps over the emblem Oak tree. Beware of a right-hand slice, as the nearby cemetery is strictly out-of-bounds! Mastering this hole leads to a more manageable second shot onto a large green with its own share of undulations and a tricky ridge towards the back.
As you take a break from the course, the welcoming Clubhouse awaits, offering a well-stocked bar and a restaurant serving delectable meals. Additionally, the Clubhouse is well-equipped to host weddings, celebrations, and corporate events. For golf enthusiasts, the Pro Shop, led by Professional Dean Lintott, offers a range of services, including tuition, equipment, trolley, electric trolley, and buggy hire.
With its rich history, friendly atmosphere, and challenging yet rewarding course, Puttenham Golf Club remains a haven for golfers seeking a memorable and enjoyable experience in Surrey's beautiful countryside.
