Rochford Hundred Golf Club - A Historic Haven for Golf Enthusiasts
Rochford Hundred Golf Club, located in Hall Road, Rochford, Southend-On-Sea, is a warm and friendly traditional members' club with a rich history dating back to 1893. Originally known as Southend Golf Club, it later moved to its present location in Rochford in 1896, thanks to the invitation by James Tabor, who generously offered to fund the construction of an 18-hole course.
One unique feature that sets Rochford Hundred apart is the active St. Andrew's Church situated within the grounds. With its flag of St. George, provided by the club, waving in view of the clubhouse, 1st tee, and 18th fairway, golfers can use it as a guide to assess the wind direction and speed throughout the course. Some may even jest that it is perfectly positioned for divine intervention at the beginning of a round or seeking forgiveness after a less-than-stellar performance.
The par 72 parkland course spans 6,355 yards from the white tees, having undergone a redesign in 1924. Strategically placed ditches and well-bunkered areas keep golfers on their toes as they navigate the fairways. During the main playing season, the fairways can firm up, benefiting drives off the tee but adding challenge to approach shots towards the greens.
The club has a rich history dating back to its foundation in 1893, and its course, designed by renowned architect James Braid, remains a testament to classic golf course architecture. The clubhouse offers excellent amenities, including a bar and restaurant for members and visitors to enjoy. It also caters to various events, such as weddings, celebrations, and corporate gatherings.
For golf enthusiasts, the pro shop led by Professional Michael Vandenberg provides a range of services, including equipment sales, expert tuition, and custom fitting to help players improve their game. Whether you're a seasoned golfer or new to the sport, Rochford Hundred Golf Club promises a memorable experience on its scenic and challenging course.
